MORE ABOUT WOODEN PLATES

Our wooden plates are not just chunks of wood — they are custom-made plywood made from the same woods as our instruments. When you see Cocobolo on the outside, note that the inside ply is also Cocobolo, even though it’s covered with silver shielding. Making the plates symmetrical prevents cupping and warping. The central layers are Maple and Purpleheart or Walnut, giving the plates five strong layers.
In addition to their Beyond Custom look, wooden backplates perform a vital function with Series I and II models. Metal interferes with the magnetic field of the single coil pickups. By using wooden plates, we’re able to get amazingly quiet single coil pickup systems.
