The Alembic bird tailpiece is our iconic shape found on most of our builds, but that doesn't mean it's the only choice: you're only limited by your imagination. Standard shapes include the Half Moon, Bar, and our beloved Bird, but the tailpiece shape can be just about anything that fits on the instrument.
For instance, the Capsule shape is a hyper-rounded version of the Bar shape, reminiscent of lipstick pickups. Customers have asked us to form the tailpiece to match to arc of the Omega carving on the body, like on the Arc and Crescent shapes. Bird of Prey was a custom shape that once others saw it, soon became a classic.
